CALL TO ACTION: Ending the Opioid and Drug Poisoning Crisis
August 10th, 2022 – The Grey-Bruce Community Drug and Alcohol Strategy leadership group met on August 10th to reviewed the proposed policy solutions presented by the Drug Strategy Network of Ontario (DNSO). By consensus, our partners approved to endorse these recommendations, with the addition of the following comments:
- emphasis on the importance of meaningful engagement with Indigenous communities in developing culturally relevant solutions and strategies
- continued use of the language ‘opioid/drug poisoning crisis’ which acknowledges the regulatory failures and overprescribing of opioid medications that contributed to the increased demand and dependence on highly potent synthetic opioids.
